Leadership is the ability to lead yourself and your life better by making effective decisions, and to grow and guide other leaders by passing the baton to them. Full Stop.
This assumption is my point of view with respect to leadership.
There are excellent teachers and teachers who inspire students. Many of us became passionate about some particular subject (mathematics, philosophy, history, etc.) simply because whoever transferred knowledge was a natural leader.
There are great moms and dads who are able to convey proper trust to their children so that they grow up confident, balanced and able to self-determine. They are too Successful leader!
In most cases, in my professional experience, leadership is independent of gender.
I am aware that I can attract some criticism, after all mine is simply a personal point of observation.
For several years there has been talk of “female” leadership. In the UN Agenda 2030 there is the goal of increasing the number of women in top positions. I state that I fully agree and I believe it is appropriate to educate girls from the most disadvantaged countries in an expansive manner to encourage them to enter the world of work and politics, I would like – as regards the West – to share my thoughts.
There are “multinational” companies in Italy that have this objective on the table and that they promote women or, compared to new hires, they prefer or even have the obligation from the parent company to include female figures to promote “female leadership”.
The downside that I see is a reverse discrimination against men.
I know of competent men in prestigious companies “in the odor of promotion” overtaken by female resources hired to fill open positions. This leads to strong (very strong and unspeakable) “stomachache” for some very smart men and, from my point of view, if the managers are talented it is likely that sooner or later they will leave the company for other opportunities or business challenges. This risk inevitably involves the outflow of precious human capital resources.
Per concludere, io sono a favore dell’inclusione, della diversity e dell’integrazione delle donne in ruoli maggiormente strategici e di potere: ça va sans dire.
To conclude, I am in favor of the inclusion, diversity and integration of women in more strategic and empowered roles: ça va sans dire.
It is important, from my point of view, that this happens in a gradual, strategic and targeted manner, offering equal opportunities “at the entrance” of career paths to both junior boys and girls.
A few days ago during a conference I heard again about “stronger sex and weaker sex”. Outdated and outdated concepts. Too bad that the professional who did the surgery concluded by saying that the stronger sex is that of women and they are more able to show leadership….Inevitably slipping into reverse discrimination against men.
Leadership is leadership. Full Stop.
Repetita iuvant:
Leadership is the ability to guide yourself and your life better by making effective decisions, and to grow and guide other leaders by passing the baton to them. Full Stop.
This assumption is my point of view with respect to leadership totally free from gender.
